Reader, there was a time when I genuinely believed I was bad at gardening. Iโd plant something. It would die. Plant something else. Bugs would eat it. Grow a beautiful tomato plant and somehow get approximately three tomatoes. ๐ Meanwhile, my neighbors would just casually throw seeds at the ground and come back six weeks later to a farmerโs market. Eventually, I realized: I wasnโt bad at gardening.I just didnโt know how to garden yet. ๐ I was treating every disappointing result like evidence...

There are many things I miss about the early days of building a business. Most notably that delusional phase of dreaming, scheming and tons of "OMG, what if we did THIS?!" I would live in that phase forever if that alone would pay my rent and buy my groceries. But eventually every business demands that you answer a much less sexy question: Are we actually doing this or not? ๐ณ Eventually the beautiful ideas have to become offers. And you have to look another human being in the eye...

I've started cutting back my tomato plants this weekend and harvesting what feels like an absurd amount of food. Then last night I made a giant vat of vegetable soup with peppers, carrots, tomatoes and broccoli (in a miso curry base, ๐) and froze it to eat of the winter. Note: I made a huge mess trying to use the vacuum seal gadget that my husband bought, and it actually took me longer than I thought it would to do it all, but once I was done I felt like a champion. As I was cooking, it...

[3 min. read, 3 strategic changes, crazy ๐, and a ๐] Storytime, Reader. There was a point in my first business when we were making really good money, but life was a bit harrowing. Things started off gangbusters. We had a big spread in The New Yorker magazine and were soon catering vegan health food at premiere brand events. I was proud that our small business was making an impact in New York City. We had values and were leading the pack on eco-conscious and sustainable business practices....

Here's what Monday morning looks like for people in both categories: You sit down at the desk, knowing you need to market your business this week....

A good friend of mine just graduated from a three-year Yoga Therapy program at Kripalu. Three years learning how to deeply help people. And what was the BIG conversation among her graduating class? They're all dreading having to "sell" their services. โYou mean... now we have to become content creators if we want to have viable businesses?โ My stomach knotted up listening to her. I could FEEL the collective dread. ๐ Because they want to practice Yoga Therapy. They want to help people. They...

[TLDR - Foundations is getting a Glow-Up! My 5 pillars below] When I first learned how to build online courses, I had just come off more than a decade of running a plant-based catering company. To be clear: I was NOT the chef. I was the CEO, CFO, marketing department, operations director, occasional delivery driver and person most likely to be frantically texting someone at 6am because we were short three cases of kale. ๐ฐ But I knew that business inside and out. So, when we closed, I decided...

Back in January, I went to a podcast conference and met a woman named Christina Vidovich. We clicked immediately and started plotting dreamy collaborations. I was rolling solo, so the "new conference friend" vibes were welcome. Christina is the founder of Women Getting Visible, and as we started talking about our work, we realized there was a LOT of overlap between what she teaches about visibility and what I teach about messaging, marketing and sales. It could have ended there, but we stayed...
