Your story sells (Here’s how to shape it.)

Hey Reader,

Quick story for you…

Last fall I had the privilege of working with a client who helps single moms to organize their lives - their homes, their bookkeeping, meals... really everything.

She's basically a Feng Shui fairy godmother for single moms.

She came to me for help with sales messaging, saying:
“I know this work is desperately needed. But nobody’s buying my offer.”

So of course, we started by looking at her offer, which was honestly rock-solid.

The benefits and deliverables were crystal clear and her pricing was validated by previous sales and testimonials.

The problem was not her program, it was her messaging.

It honestly sounded like she'd plugged in her details to some generic messaging template created by AI or some marketing guru and then never personalized it.

There was no story to follow.

No way for single moms to see themselves receiving the benefits of her support.

Just a giant list of things she'd give you if you bought her service.

Honestly - it was an overwhelming amount of bullet points and lists and for her client - way too much.

It was like she was selling them more work to do.

Fast-forward a few weeks into our process:

We built a story-driven customer journey, mapped a simple sales funnel, and rewrote her sales pages and emails.

The key here: ✨She started telling better stories.✨

In addition to telling her story…
We shared stories that helped her audience see themselves in the results.

👉🏻 Stories are what turn browsers into buyers.

Because if they can envision themselves standing at the counter, washing the 20th load of dishes, feeling truly exhausted and desperate for some help - they finally get it.

They say, "That's me!"

The best part about our work?
Sales stopped feeling so heavy for her.

This happens when you stop trying to convince.

Stories are about connecting.

This reminds me of what Micki Agrawal said on our recent podcast chat...

Her truly iconic subway ad campaign for THINX was born out of a roundtable storytelling session.

She and her staff weren’t hunting for marketing tactics. They were asking: “What’s real? What would the customer feel?”

So good.

If your sales feel flat or your content isn’t converting, here’s what I want you to try:

🛠️ 3 Ways to Clarify Your Sales Message:

1) Start with a story. Use a simple story framework to share a client experience, a challenge, or a transformation moment. Keep it simple. One clear ideal client. One clear scene. One clear shift.

2) Make her the main character. Whether you're talking about a problem, a process, or a win, speak to your ideal client's lived experience. Let your audience see themselves in the narrative.

3) End with the path. Don’t just inspire, invite them to evolve. What’s the next aligned step your reader can take to create a similar result? Make it so easy for them - not 7,000 details they can't process.
