The simplest way to get more clients this week

I had a legitimate 'A-ha' moment while recording this week's podcast.

(Should it be 'ah-ha'? [makes note: Google it later])

Anyways, remember those Magic Eye fractal posters from the 90s?

At first it just looked like a confusing mess of colors. Then suddenly your eyes adjusted and you couldn't unsee the dolphin.

It's like when something that requires all parts of your brain to comprehend it suddenly clicks, and it all makes sense.

That was me thinking about: basic conversations.

Hear me out.

Most business owners (myself included) spend a lot of time trying to create the perfect content, website, offers, and sales pages.

But when I look back at nearly every meaningful sale I've made over the years, they have one thing in common:

A conversation happened first.

Not necessarily a sales call.

Just a basic conversation.

Someone replied to an email.

Someone responded to my post.

Someone asked me a question.

Someone told me what they were struggling with.

And from there, things moved forward.

So, if you're looking to find new clients this week, here are three simple ways to create more conversations:

1) Reach out to someone you've genuinely enjoyed working with in the past.

Ask how they're doing and what they're working on right now.

2) Reply to someone's post and start a real discussion.

Don't say, "Great post!"

Try sharing an actual thought, ask a question, or make an observation.

3) Send a message to someone who has been following you.

Don't pitch an offer, but just try:

"Hey, I noticed you've been [interacting/commenting/hanging out here] and I'm curious what you're working on these days."

That's it.

No complicated funnel needed for this.

Just a conversation.

The funny thing is that the more experience I accrue in business, the more clear it is that relationships are still the fastest path to revenue.

And that's coming from a person who spends A LOT of time tracking data, auditing copy and building automations.

I hope this gives you the inspo to check your Lead Tracker (don't have one - message me) and start some conversations today!

And, if you'd like to hear two business mentors arrive at this same conclusion, plus learn some foundational weekly marketing practices, this week's podcast episode is a fun listen.

I'd love to know:

What's one conversation you could start this week?

Need a vote of confidence? Hit reply and tell me where you're stuck and I'll talk you out of it. 🫢🏻

xo, Deborah

PS. Julie and I met at a podcast event and struck up a conversation. That's lead to podcast swapping, me teaching inside her community and a possible Fall collab on a program. One conversation! That's the cornerstone of so many wonderful opportunities.

PSS. We also both worked for celebrity musicians when we were in our 20's in NYC! πŸ‘€

Listen to Episode 126 of the Mindset to Market podcast: 4 Signs You're Marketing an Unclear Offer

A few years ago, I was at a networking event, balancing a tiny paper plate of cheese and crackers in one hand and extending the other while making the rounds. You know the drill. Someone asked me what I did. I gave my usual answer. Something about coaching. Marketing. Systems. Digital offers. Solopreneurs. They nodded politely, then said: "Okay, but what do you actually DO?" Okay... rude. I clarified. Or at least I thought I did. Then they asked: "Okay... but what problem does that solve?" At...

I'm fresh off my trip to Minneapolis for the Women Getting Visible conference where, despite travel delays in both directions and an unexpected detour into the world's largest veteran motorcycle conference, I had the chance to work with some powerful women! Authors. Coaches. Speakers. Small business owners. All who have built successful careers and helped countless people. That's who was in the room when I asked a series of questions that I knew would make them feel uncomfortable. I'd like to...
